Why did you decide to volunteer to teach the Free To Be program?

I've seen and battled with body image, self esteem and the need for body positivity throughout my life and in my career. I had already been volunteering with various local organizations and speaking with schools on this topic, so Free To Be was such a natural fit!

What gets your excited to jump out of bed in the morning?

(Besides my rescue pup needing to go out!) Honestly, helping others. It's truly one of my core values and it lights me up to be a part of that positive change catalyst for others! I love getting to explore, learn, share and help with all the hats that I have the honour of wearing.

What is something you are proud of?

I’m proud of the mistakes I’ve made. Listen, we’re all here to learn and grow together. I don’t know about you, but the mistakes I’ve made have been my biggest teachers. I wear those lessons with pride. So when I say I’m proud of those mistakes, I really mean that I’m proud of those important lessons that followed and the growing that happened because of it. Which means I’m proud of my marriage, my career, and the work I have the privilege of doing in my community. So many “lessons” there!

In your mind what is the most important thing that Free To Be teaches?

Hands down, the social media literacy and strengths based approach. It's so important, now more than ever, we learn to be critical consumers and celebrate and acknowledge our strengths that are not appearance based.

If you could go back and give your 12-year old self a piece of advice, what would it be?

(Wow, this question makes me teary!)I love you. You're normal, you're caring, you have the right answers. And if your unsure or struggling, which you will be at some point, it's okay to ask for help--you're so loved.
